How to Give AI Useful Context

Better context helps AI tools answer for your real situation instead of guessing from a vague request.

Context is the background information that makes an AI answer useful. Without it, the model has to guess what you mean, who the answer is for, and what constraints matter.

Useful context can include your audience, goal, current draft, technical environment, preferred tone, deadline, or what you already tried. You do not need to include everything, only the details that affect the answer.

For website work, useful context might include the platform, file names, hosting type, error message, and what changed before the problem started. For writing work, it might include the reader, topic, purpose, and examples of the style you want.

A practical habit is to add a short context block before the task. Write it like notes for a coworker: direct, specific, and relevant.

If the output feels generic, the problem is often missing context. Add the facts that would help a person give a better answer, then ask again.
