Staying informed means you are aware of the current attack environment rather than relying solely on yesterday's defenses.
You do not need deep technical knowledge to stay informed. Reliable, accessible sources include: Krebs on Security (krebsonsecurity.com) for accessible cybercrime and fraud reporting, The Hacker News for broader security news, and official advisories from CISA (US), NCSC (UK), or your national cybersecurity authority for authoritative threat alerts.
Practical security awareness habits: check HaveIBeenPwned monthly for your primary email addresses, subscribe to your national cybersecurity authority's email alerts or RSS feed, and when you hear about a major breach or scam campaign in the news, act on it — check if it affects you and apply the appropriate response.
Follow at least one security-focused account or newsletter. The goal is awareness of active threats, not comprehensive security education. Spending five minutes a week scanning security news is sufficient to be aware of the current major threats and campaigns targeting ordinary users.
