Use pwd to display the full path of your current directory.

Open Terminal and enter:

Command

pwd
Piece-by-piece explanation
  1. pwd stands for “print working directory”.
  2. print here means display text in the terminal.
  3. The command takes no option or filename.
Expected output
/home/maya

Your username replaces maya. A newly opened terminal normally starts in your home directory.

The output /home/maya begins at the root slash, enters home, and then enters the user directory maya.
